“My favorite thing about working in Union’s administration was that I got to meet every new hire. I loved hearing about their calling and how God led them to Union,” said Jonathan Shields.
“But I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with students in the Teaching Learning Center these past three years,” he said. “They’re the reason I wanted to work in education in the first place.”
Shields moved from Maplewood Academy to Union College in 2004, after 25 years of working in academies. He was Union’s Human Resources Director and Assistant for Financial Administration, but missed interacting with students. So in 2015, Shields became a full-time coach in the Teaching Learning Center.
Today is Shield’s last day. He is retiring to be a full-time grandpa of four children and starting a new chapter in life as an entrepreneur.
“I am going to start buying, renovating and renting out houses,” Shields said. “I’ll also be doing more woodwork—I love working with my hands to make unique and wonderful creations.”
